The Society of St James (SSJ) provides housing, support and care to over 3000 people in Southampton and the surrounding area who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless due to issues such as drug and alcohol addiction or mental health problems.
SSJ began in 1972, when a basic night shelter was opened for rough sleepers in Southampton. Things have come a long way since those early days, and SSJ now has a wide range of services including:
- 3 direct access hostels with space for 109 people
- A range of supported houses and flats to help homeless people at each stage of their journey towards independence
- Specialist supported housing projects for people with long-term mental health and alcohol issues
- Open access drug and alcohol support centres in Southampton and across Hampshire
- A registered care home to provide older homeless people with the special support that they need
SSJ also runs an education and training Social Enterprise, Jamie’s Computers. At Jamie’s, people with a history of homelessness, mental health issues, learning disabilities and long-term unemployment can develop their IT skills and confidence.
Our vision is for everyone in Hampshire to have a place that they can call home. Your support will help to reduce homelessness today, and prevent it for the future.
