About Broadway
Broadway is a London based charity helping homeless and vulnerable adults to move off the streets and into a home. Last year we worked with 3,463 people on their journey from street to home. We work mainly with single adults - not directly with children or families - but individuals who have often led difficult, lonely and turbulent lives with less access to support.
The people we help are:
• currently sleeping rough on the streets • living in temporary or insecure accommodation • struggling to keep the tenancy on their flat • isolated from support networks, family and friends • living with a drug or alcohol addiction • coping with poor mental health or behavioural problems • trying to find work
We are not about hand outs and we are not just about housing, we believe in giving people the skills to find a job and keep a home. We put a large amount of energy and expertise into preventing homelessness.
What we do:
• Employ teams of people who go out every night and early morning to work with rough sleepers • Provide accommodation in 5 specialist hostels, and support others in semi-independent living • Run a Health Centre offering essential services – including showers, laundry, 1:1 support • Run Work & Learning programmes focusing on basic skills, training and employability needs • Employ specialist debt and financial advice teams • Run a scheme providing accommodation in the private rented sector for those with low-level support needs.
Broadway wants to make a real difference that lasts; it is about helping people turn around their lives, not just changing the immediate situations.
What we have learned is that long lasting change takes time, even though we often need to act swiftly to help people in dire circumstances.

It is easier to raise money for a donkey than a homeless person. Homelessness is not a popular cause to support in the UK. It comes last in peoples donations: below animals, arts and sport.

|
For every individual rough sleeper, there are around 100 people in hostels and 1,100 households in unsuitable or overcrowded accommodation.

Relationship breakdown is cited as the number 1 factor contributing to homelessness.
